Chapter 86 - A Gust of Wind
“Is that clear? This question is…”
“Excuse meee!”
Yui threw the door to a classroom open.
Immediately after entering the classroom, they saw a young man educating what seemed to be several elementary school students.
“Yui!?”
“Brother! I came here to play—oh, to introduce you.”
“Didn’t you just say ‘to play’!?”
“Don’t care about trifle matters. …These people are new immigrants.”
Riku introduced himself like the times before and the young man bowed his head and did the same.
“I am Rei Shimaura. Uhh, for the time being, I am something like a teacher.”
“Ohh… You don’t use chalk or notebooks, huh.”
“We don’t have any resources. We don’t have any technology for making paper. So now, we do it verbally some way or other.”
“Isn’t it hard?”
“No, not at all. Everyone’s being good after all.”
“Hey hey, Uncle! Are they new people?”
A child asked with sparkling eyes.
“‘Uncle’, huh? I give up… Yeah, that’s right. They’ve come here to live anew.”
“I’ve learned the multiplication table! Ain’t I awesome?”
“I can already do division, you know.”
“Hmph, and yet you made a mistake not too long ago!”
“Hey, I didn’t make a mistake!”
“Hey! Be quiet, you guys. We are still more or less in class.”
Rei’s outline of life seemed to be improving.
Having carried the burden of a great sorrow previously had made Rei grow into the person he was today.
“...Since it seems like we’re disturbing, we’ll leave it at this.”
“Do you want to drink in the evening? We have the technology to make alcohol.”
“Haha, let’s do that.”
Riku and the others left the classroom.
“Well, then, the introduction is pretty much over now. The residence allotment is this, so make good use of it. Other than that… oh right! I think there’s something like a welcome reception here, so you can get to know the inhabitants of this country then. Until next time!”
“Thank you very much.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine. It’s my job after all. Then, bye-bye.”
Yui passed by like a tempest.
Riku and the others decided to immediately head to their allotted residences.

“So this is it…”
Riku and the others arrived at a rather deserted residence that hadn’t had an owner in a long time.
The windows were broken here and there, possibly by zombies, and the garden was overgrown with weeds.
“This will be a bit of work…”
“Now, now, don’t complain. I think it’s good we even got it.”
He patted Airi on her back.
…She had become quite mellow now.
Of course, he meant her personality, not her appearance1.
Anyhow, they had obtained a place to settle down.
It had become a long trip, but they had finally arrived.
In the world of crawling dead, they had found a safe place…
***
The sports ground that had now become a ranch…
At a short distance from it stood four poles.
They were apparently graves.
A woman with flowers in her hand was there.
A breathtakingly beautiful woman.
She gazed at the graves with sorrowful eyes.
Names were respectively carved on the four poles:
“Kazuma Aso”
“Jun Haiga”
“Ryou Kaneda”
“Daiki Oota”
They were people who had passed away before this country had been accomplished.
Killed by murderers and by traitors.
The woman came here every day, reporting to them.
She spoke to the graves,
“Thanks to your sacrifices, we were able to build this country. I thank you from the bottom of my heart…”
The day she didn’t come to this place would probably be the day there was a pole with her name written on it.
“Until I meet you, I will do my best to live. Therefore, please wait over there.”
She mumbled, sighing, before turning on her heel,
“...I love you, Daiki.”
It was at that time…
A gust of wind blew past the woman.
The flowers on the graves swayed as if laughing.
A/N:
This is the end of “In the World of Crawling Dead The Records of War of a Certain High School”!
To those who continued to read this work after my previous work and to everyone who started reading this, I am truly grateful!
Completing this series has led to significant growth for me.
My next work is undecided, but it would make me happy if you would continue to read my work.
Then, until next time.
- This is lost in translation, but mellow in Japanese is marui, which can also mean round. ↑
